U11's Competition Wimslow 23 November 2008
The newly formed U11's team arrived at a damp cold Manchester full of enthusiasm keen to play
in their first ever competitive hockey games.
After a much needed warm up the players gathered for a last minute meeting for a final rundown
of positions and play.
We had three 15 minute games against Wilmslow to play.
The 1st game started with everyone adapting well with Neston perhaps deserving the
win - Tom Thorne unlucky with some good attempts at goal.
The Neston defense looked strong with Millie McIvor and Biba Metcalfe playing well in the
wider positions with James Gardiner and marshalling
from the centre, the game finished 0-0.
The 2nd game started brightly with Neston showing confidence and playing most of the hockey in
the Wilmslow half.
Some bright passing and possession started to look dangerous with Alex Leamont-Jones pressing
well down the right side.
The pressure told and Oliver Dodd was at hand to sweep the ball in for the only goal. Wilmslow
then responded with some pressure
The Neston defence looked very solid with James Gardiner and Alex Jones tackling well and
taking up good positions.
A smart save from George Palin ensured the 1-0 win.
The last game saw Neston buoyed from their 1st win once again taking the game to the opposition.
A goal came soon with Oliver Dodd scoring a well worked team goal with Gregory Jones influential.
Goals followed with two from Tom Thorne and one more from Oliver Dodd well found by Alex Jones
after a great tackle.
The players thoroughly enjoyed the day and left the pitch itching for more hockey!
Many thanks to Wilmslow for the invite and kind hospitality with all the teams gaining some hockey
experience.
We are due to return back to Wilmslow a week on Sunday.
Great afternoon despite the weather.

against 3 Wilmslow sides.
