1/2 Final U15 Plate

U15 Boys 0-6 Old Loughtonians  29 Mar 2009

The U15 Boys lost out to a strong Old Loughtonians U15 Boys side.  Old Loughts went 2-0 up n the first half and at the start of the second half we hit the post and had a Penalty Flick saved.  A push for a win towards the end exposed our back door a jar and we let in a couple of soft goals, they went on to win 6-0.  We wish them well in the final  and have experienced a good run and have seen what it takes to win.

Team: Charles McCulloch (Goal), Max Dutton, Charlie Palin, Tom McCiver, Dom Johnson, Arthur Bush, James Fennah, Alex Lacey, Jonny Crick, Syd Roberts, James Knight.
Subs: Will Morrison, Jonny Crick, Ben Crane.

1/4 Final U15 Plate

U15 Boys 5-4 Ludlow  15 Mar 2009

On a wonderful spring day we travelled down to Telford to play Ludlow, who had beaten Oxton 3-2 in an earlier round after coming back from 2-0 down!

We started well and James Fennah got us settled with a good move down the left and netted a great goal.  Ludlow were dangerous on the break with some good moves from their Captain and a few other individuals.  James Knight got his stick on a melee in the D and then Ben Crane picked up a great hit from our midfield with pace and deflected it on his reverse over their keeper.  We were 3-0 up but still seriously knew that we still had a game on!

Ludlow came at us from the start and got an early goal, the Ludlow supporters turned up the volume.  They scored a cracker of a reverse with our keeper Charles McCulloch un-sighted without a chance.  Game on 3-2, but we managed a few breaks of our own and won a short, Arthur Bush didn't get hold of it as usual, but actually it caused problems and bobbled over a defenders stick into the goal, 4-2.

To their credit, Ludlow came back again with a kerfuffle in our D and the ball crept over the line, 4-3!  Max Dutton managed to flick a short onto their bar and down just over their goal line, 5-3.

They got another back, shortly after 5-4.

The last seven minutes seemed to go on for ever, but the whistle went eventually.  Well done to all the squad and some great work by everybody, also to all the parents and supporters who came to watch.

The Boys are now in the Semi-Finals of The Plate and will play on 29 March 2009.

3rd Round U15 Plate

U15 Boys 4-3 Sheffield Hallam  1 Mar 2009

The boys got off to a great start against a good Sheffield Hallam side with two or three very good players in the middle of the park. Neston worked hard and had a few chances early on but Sheffield broke well with their good players, but not releasing the ball at the last second meant we could counter attack.  It eventually payed off with Ashley Davies getting our first on 25 minutes.  We continued to work hard and James knight broke free and unleashed a cracker but his celebration failed to live up to the goal!  That made it 2-0 at half time.  Jonny Crick and Jonnie Lord came on for Will Morrison and James Fennah who took a knock.  We started the second half well and found Roberts and Knight up front more often.  But Sheffield got one back  on the break to make it 2-1.  We began to find Alex Lacey down the right, which led to a goal by Dom Johnson who only minutes earlier had stepped onto the park.  Syd Roberts got into the act with a cuffuffal in the D.  After this goal, Sheffield got frustrated and on walking back to the center spot hit the ball and unfortunately finding Arthur Bush's already scabby knee, he fell to the floor and had to come off.  Our defence of Max Dutton, Charlie Palin, Alastair Forster and Jonny Crick held well with Charles McCulloch pulling off some great saves. But this disrupted things and Sheffield came back with a dodgy short corner decision which they converted and a minute later got another to make it 4-3, Matty Rigby and Ben Crane came on and made some good moves but thankfully full time was blown. They are now in the Quarter Finals of The Plate and will play Ludlow on 15 March 2009 away.
