A Prawn Cocktail of a weekend with Mens 1's 2's, 3's and 6's winning, Ladies 1's and 2's both winning and Badgers and Beavers  coming away with good wins.

Weekend summary

Not a great start to 2010 with all the teams playing, losing.

The Mens 1's lost narrowly 1-0 to Brooklands.  A tough game that could have gone either way.

The Mens 3's lost 3-0 to top of their league Lymm 1's, considering Lymm beat most of their fellow teams in their league 5 or 6-0, this was not a bad result.

The Mens 4's lost 2-3 in a close battle with Winnington 3's. Chris Hall and Paul Fowler got the goals.

The Mens 6's went to Bramhall 4's and lost 4-2 despite having most of the play, a frustrating result.  Ben Thomas and Jonny Crick got the goals.

The Ladies 1's lost 1-0 to South Cheshire 1's, a close game that measured our girls against top of the league by 9 points and we were not far off them.  Just shows what we could do with consistency.

Mom was Greg Hughes, Pumkin of the day was Tony Bush for errors in his own D and Martin Bryceland making an athletic save and saving Tony's Blushes.  Josh Lindsay got a nasty gash above his eye needing 7 stitches, he didn't need a mask on halloween night!  He is on the mend after some fine first aid by our keeper Martin Bryceland.

The Ladies 1's drew 3-3 with Brooklands Sally Bell got the hat-trick and the Ladies 2's beat Sale 1-0, goal Claudia Fowler-Williams got the winner.  But MoM was Pat Bernard who was phoned last minute to play in goal, a position she is not normally associated with!!

Weekend Summary 10/11 Oct

The Mens teams didn't lose this week with every team winning bar the 5's who drew.  The Mens 1's kept their winning league feeling in the league and drawing Borg inspiration, beating Formby 2's 3-0.  Lol McNeight, Rogier Van O and Mark Shipley got the goals, with the last one going in off a foot!

The Mens 2's went up to Morecombe for the day and came away with a 2-1 win,  Bryn Ford-Jones got both goals, with an assist from The AA on Fraser Exhaust!  Good result for the 2's.

The Mens 3's won 3-0, James Knight having played two games for school that morning scored two and Steve Mahoney got the oher.

The Mens 4's beat Alderley Edge 4's 4-2, Paul Fowler got two and Mike Lyness and George Roberts got the others.

On Sunday the Over 40 boys took on one of our old rivals Bowdon, who play as a team in Division 6.  Our average age of 54 took on an average aged 46 for Bowdon.  Andy Crutchley and Dave Tweedie got a brace and Andy Turnbull got one in a great game of Masters Hockey...our vintage players of messers Brooker and Byrnes showed some classy moves, in the bar.  Bowdon won 6-5, they scored 4 from short corners and all ours were open play goals.  We go into The Plate next month.

Weekend Summary 3/4 October 2009

The Mens 1's went to Brooklands 3's and out played the Manchester outfit for most of the game, playing a Bjorn Borg, cool, calm collected game and came away with a 2-0 win.  Carl Smith and Roger van O got the goals and Tom Mc was MoM.

The Mens 2's beat Manchester Trinity 1's 4-3, but were 3-0 up at half time and showed some character to win, Bryn scored two, one a PF, Jay Long and Kenny Gardiner got the others. Bryn a deserving MoM.

The Mens 3's led by their dapper new captain Rob Fisher came up against an up-coming Lymm 1's and sadly came off second best, 3-1, James Knight got the consulation goal.  But Rob won the sartorial prize and has raised the smartness bar; for us Captains; a notch, with a jacket, the rest of us must do better!

The Mens 4's went to Winnington Park 3's and got a 2-1 win, Andy Hogarth got both.

The Mens 5's entertained South Cheshire 4's in a family affair and came away with a 7-0 win, Chris Hall and Junior Bez got two, one assisted by Senior Bez, Senior Bez got one assisted by Dave Tweedie.  Niall Kane and Charlie Palin got one each also, Niall Kane was MoM.

The Ladies 1's entertained Acton and got a 1-1 draw in an end to end game. Sally Bell got the goal.

The Ladies 2's lost 2-0 away to a good Wilmslow side.

The Badgers won 4-2 away at Alderley Edge, Alex Greenhalf got to, James Fennah and Dom Johnson got the others. Syd Roberts in goal.

The Beavers oppo did not show.  Alderley Edge have obviously got wind of our new facilities and improved training and couldn't bring themselves to face the Mighty Beavers!!  We march on sweeping teams aside (until next week).

The Sunday Cup games for the Mens 1's, U18 Boys and U16 Boys England Hockey Cups all proved to be exciting games.  The Mens 1's held Cannock; last season the 4th best team in England's Premier League; to a 2-0 loss and played very well for most of the game, Captain Paul Shepherd was brilliant in goal and was voted man of the match.  A great experience for the squad, to show what standard they can play too and what they need to reach.  The U16 Boys team played after this enthralling game and took on Deeside Ramblers, another good team, it was end to end stuff and had plenty of goals.  Sadly in the last dying seconds Deeside scored to make it 7-6.  The U18 Boys went up to Preston, they dominated a good natured game and won 5-1, George Roberts and Scott Barry got a brace each and Tom Betts scored a cracker.  Captain Warby led the lads well and we look forward to the next round.

Weekend Summary 26 Sept 2009

The mens 1's won their first competitive game on the new astro at Parkgate 5-3. Mark Shipley got two, Dan Khedun, Roger Van O, and Tom McCurdy got the others.  Greg Brooker helped Oxton with a deflection but that didn't stop Neston winning their inaugral game of the season.

The mens 2's went to Rhyl and sadly didn't play the way they can and came away with a 1-3 loss, Aled Jarvis got a consolation goal and Rich Lowry was disappointed with the result.

The mens 3's had a great debut game against Bramhall winning 6-4 after going down 2-0 to start with Kenny Gardiner scoring a great last goal. Steve Mahoney got two, Tom Betts got two and John Edwards scored.

Weekend Summay 19 Sept 2009

The ladies played the inaugral competitive game on the new pitch and fought hard for a 3-3 draw in the end.  The ladies 2's went to South Cheshire and sadly lost out  3-0.
The mens 1's went to Wilmslow to play in the Cheshire Plate and after full time it was 5-5, after a minute of golden goal, Carl Smith managed to slot home the winner. Considering Wilmslow came up from Division 2 as champions this year and they only lost one game and scored 5 goals on average each game, last season, it was a good result against an emerging side.
The mens 3's and 4's had a practice match and the 3's came away with a 2-1 win in competitive match with some good play from both teams and fine umpiring.
The mens 5's and 6's also had a practice match with the 6's almost causing an upset at half time, winning 2-1.  But the 5's got organised in the second half and the 6's lost a little shape....final score 5-2 to the deserving 5's.
