5 October 2008
Neston South
Wirral Ladies 2's 0-9 Lymm 1's
Lymm had beaten Crewe 3s 16-0 away the week
before and beaten Division 2 opposition in a pre-season friendly and so we knew this would be a very tough match.
By halftime Lymm were
5 – 0 up despite the hard work of the whole team and some great saves from Hannah Braid in goal. After the break, we feared the floodgates as Lymm had the luxury of 3 substitutes whereas we had none. However the team rallied and were able to close down their play and mark effectively. We managed to hold them to just 1 goal in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
Despite numerous penalty
corners being awarded to them, Lymm were able to convert only one, thanks to very effective defending by Neston. The midfield also worked hard to contain Lymm, with the forward line also contributing to hold the ball
up as much as possible and we were able to mount some good counter-attacks.
The 2nd team is
mostly comprised of last season’s 3rd team who played in Division 7 and so this was a very respectable result
all in all.
Thanks go to Mark Wilkie for
umpiring and congratulations to Hannah Braid who was deservedly named player of the match.
