Neston Ladies III 3 - 0 Alderley
Edge Ladies III 26 Jan 2008
Neston Ladies 3s secured another vital win in
their push for promotion this season and reclaimed second place in the Division.
Despite
several regulars being unavailable the team played well to achieve an impressive league record of 6 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses
this season. The 3s have been defeated only by Alderley Edge 2’s who have
not yet dropped a point.
Already
winning 1 – 0 at halftime, the team rallied in the second half to score 2 more.
Niamh Kirby scored 2 of the goals, with captain Sue Mathew-Jones claiming the remaining goal. Another clean sheet also helped to keep the goal difference healthy at 15.
Particularly strong performances were put in by Melinda Totty, Rachel Hopper, Ellie Rose and Niamh Kirby. Special mentions should be made to Pat Bernard for coming out of retirement to help out in the midfield
and to Sue Mathew-Jones and Jenna Smith for soldiering on in the face of pre-match injuries.
Thanks
also go to Trevor Mathew-Jones and Kev Smith for umpiring.
Player
of the match was Melinda Totty.
NSW Ladies 3's 4-0 Wilmslow
3's 3 November 2007
The ladies third team remained
2nd in Division 7 after a convincing 4 – 0 win against Wilmslow 3s who had been equal on points with us.
Captain Sue Mathew-Jones scored
a hat-trick of goals, all from open play and Melinda Totty claimed the remaining goal from a penalty corner. Neston’s dominance was such that Wilmslow never really looked like scoring.
The team played extremely well
and the hard work at training and Lawrence McNeight’s coaching from the sideline paid off. Sophie Bezant kept a clean sheet in goal on her debut, making some good saves and also thanks to solid
defending by Neston.
Unfortunately the game was
marred by Wilmslow dissenting about umpiring decisions (including their own umpire!) but we hope to silence their protests
with a similar result in the away fixture in the New Year!
Player of the match was Melinda
Totty.
A.Edge 3's 1-2 NSW Ladies
3's 13 October 2007
Having been beaten by Alderley Edge’s
2nd team the previous week, Neston were determined to claim a win against their 3rd team. Neston took the lead in the first half with a well-taken goal by Hannah Wood. The team showed a great deal of grit and determination against a scrappy opposition who were given the
benefit of numerous decisions by the Alderley Edge umpires. The frustration with
the umpiring culminated in an unusual decision by the umpire to award a penalty corner in the other umpire’s “D”
for a ball striking an Alderley Edge foot!
The equaliser resulted but
rather than Neston’s heads dropping, they fought back almost instantly with a Liz Tappin cross being converted into
the winner by Sue Mathew-Jones. Neston fought hard to contain the Alderley comeback
and secured their 2nd league win in 3 games to go second in the table.
Player of the Match was to
Louise Everitt.
