Parents Information Page

Welcome if you are a New member.  This page gives Parents information about our Child Protection Policy and other information relating to your child playing Hockey at Neston South Wirral Hockey Club.  Scroll down for more detailed information.

Dear Parents/Carers, On behalf of the hockey section we would like to welcome you and your child to the club and provide you with some information about our activities. The club provides opportunities for young people to receive coaching and experience competition in friendly matches. The minimum age for attending the sessions is 7, unless supervised by an adult throughout the coaching session and expressly agreed with the Junior Hockey Co-ordinator. The maximum age is 16. All coaching is led by qualified coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people. We welcome parents to all training sessions and matches and value your support. We are very keen to try and involve parents in the club regardless of their knowledge of the game.

Below is some information about training times and dates, and details regarding travel arrangements, kit and club registration: All training sessions take place at Neston Cricket Club. Please arrive 10 minutes before the start time to allow time for registration and briefings.

U9s girls & boys- (Prawns) - Sundays 1000 - 1100 am
.

U11s girls and boys (Shrimps) - Sundays 1000 - 1115 am.

U13s girls & boys (Beavers) - Sundays 1100 -1230.

U16 girls (open to all secondary school aged girls) - Sundays 1145-1300 U13 age girls should also train with Beavers so they have opportunities to play competitive games at their own level.

U16 boys (Badgers) - Thursdays 6:45 - 8:15 pm.  If you are unsure which age group your child is in, don't worry. For example, U13s can mean 11, 12 and 13 year olds but a 14 year old may also play if it suits their playing ability. Children progress at different rates and we do not want a child to be playing out of their depths nor do we want a child to be held back if they are technically and physically able. We will undertake on-going assessments to enable us to make the best decision for your child.

The cost of each training session is £1; additionally there is an appropriate £3 + £1 (astro) match fee.

Arrangements should be made for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We appreciate it if children can arrive and be collected promptly. If you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact the Junior Hockey Co-ordinator (training session) or Team Managers (matches). Please see the Club handbook, hockey notice board or website for contact numbers and email addresses.  Equipment and Clothing required:
  • A hockey stick, shin pads & a gum shield (a knuckle protector is optional).
