NSW 6-1 Bramhall 16 Feb 2008
NESTON South Wirral kept their promotion hopes alive after thrashing league leaders Bramhall 6-1.
Musti Sheikh gave Neston the lead but it was shortlived as Bramhall's first attack brought an equaliser from a short
corner. However, parity did not last long, McNeight tapping home Sheikh's cross at the far post. Sheikh completed his hatrick
before the break, firing past the keeper from the top of the 'D' for 3-1 and then a mazy run down the right resulted in another
goal albeit with the help of a deflection by a defender.
The Wirral side's defence held firm against early Bramhall pressure, Horwood and Shepherd excelling while Matty Newall
put in a man of the match performance. Jarratt scored Neston's fifth on the counter attack following good work by
McNeight and the rout was completed by Smith's rocket strike into the roof of the net.
NSW 8-1 Knutsford 9 Feb 2008
NESTON's impressive home form continued as they hammered bogey side Knutsford 8-1 at the Recreation Centre to make it
25 goals scored in their past three home games.
For too long Knutsford have been Neston's nemesis despite the clear difference in ability between the two sides but on
Saturday this was laid to rest. Yet after two minutes Knutsford looked as though they would extend their remarkable run against
the Shrimps, taking a 1-0 lead. However, that was as good as it got for the visitors. Tom Smith and Sullivan goals put Neston
into the lead as they snatched the initiative which was made easier as Knutsford were reduced to 10 men following a sin bin.
A short corner goal apiece from Rob Cookson and Barry Roberts made it 4-1 at half-time.
Knutsford tried to respond early in the second half but to no avail. McNeight scored the fifth after combining with Sheikh,
before slotting home passed the advancing keeper. Further ill-discipline from Knutsford saw two players sin binned to be reduced
to nine men and Neston ensured the advantage would be taken with Barry Roberts scoring his second followed by a typically
fine individual goal from Sheikh. The rout was completed by a McNeight penalty stroke to make it 8-1 and three points for
Neston.
NSWHC 10-1 Macclesfield 26 Jan 2008
FIVE GOALS from Matt Earlam helped Neston South Wirral to a 10-1 thrashing of hapless Macclesfield at the
Recreation Centre.
The win was vital to maintain Neston's outside chance for promotion and Earlam scored the first two, both
from short corners. Jarratt got the third, again from a short corner, flicking home the rebound at close range. Earlam completed a
first half hat-trick, his first for the club, with a penalty flick to make it 4-0 at the interval.
In the second half Neston's excellent set pieces from short corners continued to provide goals as Brooker
made it 5-0. The home side's dominance was such that they did not settle on their already convincing lead, instead piling
on the agony for the visitors from Macclesfield. A typical Earlam reverse stick short flew into the bottom corner, Jarratt
capitalised on fine link-up play between the midfield and forwards to slot home a seventh before McNeight dispatched away
Neston's second penalty flick to make it 8-0. Brooker made it 9-0 firing past the keeper at his near post, and although Macclesfield
scored a barely deserved consolation goal, Earlam rounded off matters notching in Neston's tenth, his fifth goal, to make
it 10-1.
Neston travel to second placed Preston 2s this week.

Formby II 4-2 NSWHC 19 Jan 2008
NESTON South Wirral crashed to a 4-2 defeat away at Formby 2s as they paid the penalty for a succession of missed chances.
Musti Sheikh, Will Herzog and Andrew Jarratt were all guilty of spurning opportunities early on and Formby took advantage,
taking the lead through a reverse stick shot. The home side added a second goal after a defensive mix up in the Neston defence
allowed the Formby striker to finish from ten yards.
In the second half Neston's Matt Earlam halved the deficit scoring a well worked short corner goal but despite heavy
pressure they could not force an equaliser. They were then hit by a sucker-punch as firstly Formby scored a short corner and
then another mix up at the back helped them make it 4-1 with a simple tap-in on the far post. Neston's Rob Cookson was then
sinbinned for dissent, a decision that compounded a poor umpiring display, before several chances were missed to get back
into the game by McNeight, Jarratt and Gardiner. The visitors finally made one count from a Barry Roberts short corner to
bring it back to 4-2 but despite dominating the play, Neston could not add to their tally.

NSWHC 7-4 Liv Uni 12 Jan 2008
A THRILLER at the Recreation Centre with goals galore saw Neston South Wirral beat Liverpool University 7-4.
Neston fell behind after McNeight was caught in possession allowing the Uni skipper to score but the home side responded
positively creating chances at will. Barry Roberts levelled from a short corner and then Herzog put Neston into the lead with
a cool finish from a pass by Earlam. A succession of chances ensued for Cookson, Sheikh, Roberts and Jarratt but all went
begging and they were made to pay for their profligacy as ex-Neston defender Ian Pringle equalised. However, just before half-time
Musti Sheikh went on a typical mazy run finishing in style with a reverse stick shot to make it 3-2.
At the start of the second half Neston increased their lead straight from the push back. A wonderfully crafted team goal
of 15 passes including all outfield players ended when Cookson scored from a tight angle and this was followed up by
a goal for Earlam before James Rigby got in on the act scoring his first goal for the 1st XI. A further Cookson strike was
sandwiched in between two Liverpool consolation goals to leave Neston 7-4 victors and up to fifth place in the table, seven
points behind second.
