Neston to West Kirby
Roy Rodger, our Scottish Elder Badger, started us off waving his Red Hockey Umpiring cards as a send off!
Mike Lyness started the dribble and covered approx 600yds to Nicholls Ice cream shop! No we didn't make our first
break at that point, but he handed over to George Falck, Mike jumping on George's bike and so it went on for 9 miles!
We decided to go along the Parkgate front and then up onto the Wirral Way at the Boathouse end. Within a short
time our first injury, Will Falck concentrating so much tripped over a sleeping Policeman, I suppose there aren't many on
a Hockey Pitch!!
Thankfully; Richard Lowry would be proud of me; I had my Badger First Aid Kit and patched him up! We made good
ground and actually went ahead of our time schedule. Phone calls were made to parents as we got to Thurstaston by 11.30
and had an early lunch and pushed on to West Kirby.
The surface was a little bumpy and the ball would occasionally find its way into the semi-rough, ironically we lost two
balls one near Heswall Golf Course the other at Caldy. I don't know what the golf club members are going to make of
them when they come across them?
Young Ben Pearson got wheel tracking problems, which were sorted out with an acurate boot at the right point, on
the bike not Ben, might i add!
Callum Boothroyd who started to lag behind for the last 30 minutes eventually realised he had been rolling along on a
flat tyre, it wasn't that he was unfit, as he had thought. Mike Lyness, ever the practical one, sorted it out and
things were back on the road!
We arrived at West Kirby at 12.45 and decided for the most, to turn around and cycle back to Neston, some Parents picked
up their Beavers /Badgers to take home before the forcasted rain. We got back to Neston CC before the Dribble turned
into a Splash and got home in time for Jam sandwiches and lashings of Ginger Beer! Timmy the Dog also had a good day!
