NSW 6-1 Bramhall 16 Feb 2008
NESTON South Wirral kept their promotion hopes alive after thrashing league leaders Bramhall 6-1.
Musti Sheikh gave Neston the lead but it was shortlived as Bramhall's first attack brought an equaliser from a short
corner. However, parity did not last long, McNeight tapping home Sheikh's cross at the far post. Sheikh completed his hatrick
before the break, firing past the keeper from the top of the 'D' for 3-1 and then a mazy run down the right resulted in another
goal albeit with the help of a deflection by a defender.
The Wirral side's defence held firm against early Bramhall pressure, Horwood and Shepherd excelling while Matty Newall
put in a man of the match performance. Jarratt scored Neston's fifth on the counter attack following good work by
McNeight and the rout was completed by Smith's rocket strike into the roof of the net.
NSW 8-1 Knutsford 9 Feb 2008
NESTON's impressive home form continued as they hammered bogey side Knutsford 8-1 at the Recreation Centre to make it
25 goals scored in their past three home games.
For too long Knutsford have been Neston's nemesis despite the clear difference in ability between the two sides but on
Saturday this was laid to rest. Yet after two minutes Knutsford looked as though they would extend their remarkable run against
the Shrimps, taking a 1-0 lead. However, that was as good as it got for the visitors. Tom Smith and Sullivan goals put Neston
into the lead as they snatched the initiative which was made easier as Knutsford were reduced to 10 men following a sin bin.
A short corner goal apiece from Rob Cookson and Barry Roberts made it 4-1 at half-time.
Knutsford tried to respond early in the second half but to no avail. McNeight scored the fifth after combining with Sheikh,
before slotting home passed the advancing keeper. Further ill-discipline from Knutsford saw two players sin binned to be reduced
to nine men and Neston ensured the advantage would be taken with Barry Roberts scoring his second followed by a typically
fine individual goal from Sheikh. The rout was completed by a McNeight penalty stroke to make it 8-1 and three points for
Neston.
NSWHC 10-1 Macclesfield 26 Jan 2008
FIVE GOALS from Matt Earlam helped Neston South Wirral to a 10-1 thrashing of hapless Macclesfield at the
Recreation Centre.
The win was vital to maintain Neston's outside chance for promotion and Earlam scored the first two, both
from short corners. Jarratt got the third, again from a short corner, flicking home the rebound at close range. Earlam completed a
first half hat-trick, his first for the club, with a penalty flick to make it 4-0 at the interval.
In the second half Neston's excellent set pieces from short corners continued to provide goals as Brooker
made it 5-0. The home side's dominance was such that they did not settle on their already convincing lead, instead piling
on the agony for the visitors from Macclesfield. A typical Earlam reverse stick short flew into the bottom corner, Jarratt
capitalised on fine link-up play between the midfield and forwards to slot home a seventh before McNeight dispatched away
Neston's second penalty flick to make it 8-0. Brooker made it 9-0 firing past the keeper at his near post, and although Macclesfield
scored a barely deserved consolation goal, Earlam rounded off matters notching in Neston's tenth, his fifth goal, to make
it 10-1.
Neston travel to second placed Preston 2s this week.

Formby II 4-2 NSWHC 19 Jan 2008
NESTON South Wirral crashed to a 4-2 defeat away at Formby 2s as they paid the penalty for a succession of missed chances.
Musti Sheikh, Will Herzog and Andrew Jarratt were all guilty of spurning opportunities early on and Formby took advantage,
taking the lead through a reverse stick shot. The home side added a second goal after a defensive mix up in the Neston defence
allowed the Formby striker to finish from ten yards.
In the second half Neston's Matt Earlam halved the deficit scoring a well worked short corner goal but despite heavy
pressure they could not force an equaliser. They were then hit by a sucker-punch as firstly Formby scored a short corner and
then another mix up at the back helped them make it 4-1 with a simple tap-in on the far post. Neston's Rob Cookson was then
sinbinned for dissent, a decision that compounded a poor umpiring display, before several chances were missed to get back
into the game by McNeight, Jarratt and Gardiner. The visitors finally made one count from a Barry Roberts short corner to
bring it back to 4-2 but despite dominating the play, Neston could not add to their tally.

NSWHC 7-4 Liv Uni 12 Jan 2008
A THRILLER at the Recreation Centre with goals galore saw Neston South Wirral beat Liverpool University 7-4.
Neston fell behind after McNeight was caught in possession allowing the Uni skipper to score but the home side responded
positively creating chances at will. Barry Roberts levelled from a short corner and then Herzog put Neston into the lead with
a cool finish from a pass by Earlam. A succession of chances ensued for Cookson, Sheikh, Roberts and Jarratt but all went
begging and they were made to pay for their profligacy as ex-Neston defender Ian Pringle equalised. However, just before half-time
Musti Sheikh went on a typical mazy run finishing in style with a reverse stick shot to make it 3-2.
At the start of the second half Neston increased their lead straight from the push back. A wonderfully crafted team goal
of 15 passes including all outfield players ended when Cookson scored from a tight angle and this was followed up by
a goal for Earlam before James Rigby got in on the act scoring his first goal for the 1st XI. A further Cookson strike was
sandwiched in between two Liverpool consolation goals to leave Neston 7-4 victors and up to fifth place in the table, seven
points behind second.

Neston SW 7-1 Wigan 1 Dec 2007
NESTON South Wirral were in seventh heaven crushing Wigan 7-1 at the Recreation Centre.
The home side took control from the start with McNeight opening the scoring from a short corner before two goals by Rob
Cookson put Neston out of sight. Firstly, Cookson deflected home Sheikh's cross and then he scored from a short corner after
good play by Barry Roberts.
Musti Sheikh continues to lead the goalscoring charts and he showed no sign of slowing down as he grabbed a hat-trick.
His first goal made it 4-0 to Neston at half-time after unselfish work by McNeight who drew keeper before rolling the ball
across to provide Sheikh with a tap-in.
After the break Sheikh produced a brilliant solo goal after rounding seven tackles by the hapless Wigan defence and his
3rd, Neston's sixth, proved to be more of a team move but an equally fine goal nevertheless. A long ball from Brooker found
Sheikh in a dangerous position and he did not pass up the opportunity to punish Wigan by taking it past the last defender
before unleashing an unstoppable shot from just inside the area.
Jarratt's clinical finish rounded the rout off and not even a late consolation goal by Wigan could take the shine
off a highly comprehensive win. Neston travel to face Bowdon (3) in their final league game before the Christmas break.
Neston South Wirral 3-0 Didsbury Northern II 18 Nov 2007
NESTON South Wirral won 3-0 against Didsbury Northern(2) at the Recreation Centre on Saturday. The home side had
a great start with an early goal as Sheikh took advantage of a defensive mistake from Steve Kelso's long pass, to smash the
ball home past the keeper. However, despite this enterprising start Didsbury fought back and were denied on several
occasions from Paul Shepherd as they enjoyed lengthy spells of possession.
In the second half, Neston doubled their advantage when a Barry Roberts pass deceived the defence to leave Rob Cookson
with a simple chance from six yards out. They went further ahead as Sheikh dragged flick home to leave Neston in an
unassailable position.
Liverpool University 4-3 Neston South Wirral 1s 11 Nov 2007
Neston South Wirral tumbled to a disappointing 4-3 defeat to Liverpool University on Sunday. Liverpool
dominated the first half and took the lead from a short corner goal. Neston fought back in the second half as Sheikh levelled
from the spot before Jarratt swept home a rebound to put Neston 2-1 in front. However, individual mistakes were to prove costly
as Sheikh lost possession enabled the University to break at pace and equalise before two further mix ups resulted in them
enjoying a two goal cushion. A Matt Earlam short corner goal that was blasted past the keeper brought it back to 4-3
but Neston couldn't force an equaliser to leave them in sixth spot after eight games, six points away from the promotion places.
Bebington 2-3 Neston South Wirral 1s 10 Nov 2007
Neston South Wirral gained a well deserved 3-2 away victory over rivals' Bebington in the Wirral
derby on Saturday. The visitors opened the scoring with a Barry Roberts short corner strike, which was too powerful for the
keeper, before Musti Sheikh doubled the lead with a typical solo run and thunderous finish. The deficit was halved just before
half-time from a scrappy goal.
In the second half, Neston remained in control and restored their two goal advantage with Jason Long
converting a rebound after the keeper could only parry out a short corner goal.
A late Bebington consolation goal gave the scoreline a slightly flattering look to it in a game that
Neston thoroughly deserved the points.
South Cheshire 4-5 NSW 27 October 2007
A THRILLING 5-4 victory for Neston South Wirral away to South Cheshire keeps them in touch
with their other promotion hopefuls.
Neston took the lead through McNeight after deflecting a Roberts's short corner and quickly
doubled their advantage by Sheikh's great solo effort that saw him run half the length of the pitch before finishing emphatically
from his reverse stick shot.
South Cheshire halved the deficit, but Sheikh got his second of the match to restore Neston's
two goal cushion following good link-up play with Cookson. The home side fought back once more though and scored two goals
to draw level at 3-3.
Neston's superiority finally told as goals from Earlam and Long meant that a further South
Cheshire effort was rendered no more than a consolation goal with Neston holding on to a 5-4 win.

4-2 Macclesfield 13 October 2007
Neston South Wirral returned to winning ways as they won away Macclesfield in a comfortable 4-2 win. Neston took the lead
through Musti Sheikh after collecting a Jarvis pass on the left before rounding the keeper to slot home. Macclesfield equalised,
before McNeight restored the lead by deflecting a Barry Roberts short corner shot home and then Sheikh scored his second,
Neston's third. Cookson took a free hit quickly and McNeight's lay off found Sheikh in space who finished clinically. Earlam
added a fourth with a powerfully struck reverse stick shot to complete the victory with the home
side grabbing a consolation goal late on.

Neston South Wirral got back to winning
ways on Saturday against Macclesfield. Both teams contested a bright opening spell with
the attacks on top in the early stages.NSW followed the pattern of recent games
and took the initiative with a well taken goal.A crisp threatening move resulted in Jarvis feeding the ball to Sheikh from the left and withplenty
to do Sheikh betting a defender and then running around keeper to flick in.
The opposition then rallied and applied some pressure then a defensive
clearance was grasped
and injected into the danger zone for a defected finish to make it 1-1.Neston buoyed by conceding then applied pressure and scored off a well taken short corner.
With skipper McNeight
deflecting the ball at pace into the net. The second half produced some
scrappy play with Neston taking the game to a 3-1 score line.
Good play from Cookson provided McNeight a lay off
to Sheikh who dribbled around a compacted area to place the goal for his second of the game. Neston then scored a fourth
with forward Earlam scoring a trademark reverse shot.
The home team got a late consolation but the game was over as a contest.

NSW 3-4 Bramhall
6 October 2007
An open and entertaining
game saw Neston South Wirral suffer their first defeat of the season as they lost 4-3 to Bramhall at the Recreation Centre.
Neston scored very early
on through Andrew Jarratt as he swept home a Barry Roberts cross but Bramhall hit back immediately to level. Roberts restored Neston’s lead from a short corner but poor defending allowed Bramhall to level again
on ten minutes in a terrific start to the match. The visitors took the lead with
a quick counter attack midway through the half, as the forward peeled away from his marker to slot home.
After the break, Neston
pressed for an equaliser but were hit with a sucker punch. Bramhall showed their
pace on the break following a Neston short corner and Pete Corrigan crossed the ball to the far post for his strike partner
to score from close range to make it 4-2. The home side continued to create chances
and controversially had a Lawrence McNeight goal disallowed while several other strange decisions were made as the umpires
had a poor game. Neston did pull a goal back with McNeight scoring from close
range but despite heavy pressure and plenty of possession, Neston could not quite force a deserved equaliser.
Team: Paul Shepherd, Barry
Roberts, Greg Brooker, Steve Kelso, Fraser Horwood, Rob Cookson, Kenny Gardiner, Matt Newall, Musti Sheikh, Andrew Jarratt,
Matt Earlam, Aled Jarvis, Lawrence McNeight.

Mens1's 3-1 Formby 2's 22 September 2007
The Mens 1's began
the new hockey season in impressive style as they won 3-1 against Formby 2nds at Neston Recreation Centre. The home side’s passing was crisp and accurate from the start as they pinned Formby back in their
own half and this early pressure was rewarded with the opening goal. Greg Brooker
converted into the bottom corner from close range after five minutes, before Musti Sheikh added a second goal shortly after. Neston scored a third goal after 20 minutes following a very good move with Jarratt
combining well with Barry Roberts down the right, before the latter provided a superb cross to leave Sheikh with a simple
finish on the penalty spot.
After the interval, Neston
continued to be the better side with several chances going begging but despite Formby grabbing a consolation goal back, the
home side gathered three points in a convincing display.
Paul Shepherd, Barry Roberts, Greg Brooker,
Steve Kelso, Fraser Horwood, Rob Cookson, Kenny Gardiner, Matt Newall, Musti Sheikh, Andrew Jarratt, Matt Earlam, Aled Jarvis.
