Selection Committee
Every Monday evening at 7 pm at Neston Cricket Club the Club Captain and the Team Captains, Chairman, Umpire
Co-ordinator and Coach sit and discuss the previous weekends game and the forth coming matches and training schedules.
The priority of the club is the 1st Teams promotion to the next level and this is the most important item.
The next most important item is to be giving the younger members of each team a chance to move through the lower teams and
up towards the first team. In so doing it is important to have a balanced side of youth and experience.
All sorts of factors are considered when a player is promoted and some develop faster than others, physically
and mentally. Sometimes a later developer becomes a better all round player, so don't worry if you are not moving up
when others the same age are.
However a few things could help you move up, apart from being a good player:
1. Attending training as much as possible.
2. Listen to your Captain and do what they say.
3. Communicating with the players around you in the game. Positive and loud.
4. Committing to the tackle with a controlled amount of aggression.
5. Not talking back to the Umpire.
6. Keeping fit and mobile and injury free.
There are occasions when players return from injury or time away and they will start off at a level that
might mean you go down. You are intitled to ask your Captain why and this would be seen as positive. The Captain
should be able to tell you what they are looking for from you and what you need to develop.
The biggest mistake made is never learning from each game and if you don't ask what you did wrong and try
and do something about it, then that player will never move forward.
Also remember these five key points when playing.
1. Possesion is golden.
2. If the pass is not on, don't give it.
3. Attack wide.
4. Defend narrow.
5. Do the simple things well.
